House Sponsors: GIGLIO-BROSNAHAN-HOLBROOK. Short description: VEH CD-SOS POLICE POWERS Synopsis of Bill as introduced: Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that the Secretary of State Department of Police is authorized to perform specified powers and duties relating to law enforcement. Provides that persons within the Secretary of State Department of Police who exercise these powers are conservators of the peace. Provides that the Secretary of State Department of Police may charge, collect, and receive fees or moneys equivalent to the cost of providing its personnel, equipment, and services to governmental agencies and any moneys generated are to be deposited into the Secretary of State Police Services Fund to be used for Secretary of State Department of Police expenses. Provides that the Secretary of State Department of Police may apply for grants and contracts and receive, expend, allocate, or disburse funds and moneys made available by public or private entities. Amends the State Finance Act to create the Secretary of State Police Service Fund. Effective immediately. HOUSE AMENDMENT NO. 1. Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code to provide that the Director of Police (instead of the Director of Personnel) for the Secretary of State Department of Police is granted specified powers and duties. Provides that all funds received from specified sources (instead of all sources) by the Secretary of State Department of Police shall be deposited into the Secretary of State Police Services Fund to be appropriated for specified purposes.
