House Sponsors: DART. Short description: CON AMEND-JUDICIARY ARTICLE Synopsis of Bill as introduced: Proposes to amend the Judiciary Article of the Illinois Constitution. Requires that a Judge or an Associate Judge initially appointed or elected after the amendment's effective date be a licensed Illinois attorney for at least 10 years. Effective upon being declared adopted in accordance with Section 7 of the Illinois Constitutional Amendment Act. HOUSE AMENDMENT NO. 1. Replaces the amendatory provisions with substantially similar provisions. Provides that a person is not eligible to be a judge or associate judge unless the person is a licensed attorney-at-law of this State and has been licensed as an attorney-at-law for at least 10 years (instead of is a licensed attorney-at-law of this State for at least 10 years). Changes a reference to read "this Constitutional Amendment of 2000" (instead of 1999).
