House Sponsors: HARTKE Short description: VEH CD-CDL FEES-STATE POLICE Synopsis of Bill as introduced: Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code to provide that $5 of the total fee for an original or renewal commercial driver's license shall be paid into the Motor Carrier Safety Inspection Fund to be used by the Department of State Police to hire additional officers to conduct motor carrier safety inspections. Increases the fee for a commercial driver's license from $40 to $45. Amends the State Finance Act to create the Motor Carrier Safety Inspection Fund. Effective immediately. SENATE AMENDMENT NO. 1. Deletes everything. Reinserts the bill as introduced except that it raises the fee for an original or renewal commercial driver's license from $40 to $60 (instead from $40 to $45) and provides that $20 (instead of $5) from each original or renewal of a commercial driver's license be paid into the Motor Carrier Safety Inspection Fund. Raises the fee for a commercial driver instruction permit from $30 to $50. Provides that $20 of each commercial driver instruction permit shall be deposited into the Motor Carrier Safety Inspection Fund. Effective immediately. FISCAL NOTE (Illinois State Police) $2.2 million to $2.5 million in revenue per year would be generated for the Motor Carrier Safety Inspection Fund. FISCAL NOTE (Secretary of State) An estimated $2.3 million in increased revenue would be produced for the Dept. of State Police. HOUSE AMENDMENT NO. 1. Adds reference to: 30 ILCS 105/6z-23 from Ch. 127, par. 142z-23 Provides that money in the CDLIS/AAMVAnet Trust Fund may be used for commercial driver's license testing equipment.
