92_HB0842enr HB0842 Enrolled LRB9206862TAtm 1 AN ACT to create the Carbon Sequestration Study Act. 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 3 represented in the General Assembly: 4 Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the 5 Carbon Sequestration Study Act. 6 Section 5. Carbon Sequestration Advisory Committee; 7 duties. 8 (a) The Carbon Sequestration Advisory Committee is 9 created within the Department of Agriculture. 10 (b) The Advisory Committee shall study and investigate 11 the potential for carbon sequestration in Illinois, focusing 12 on air quality and the preservation of agricultural 13 resources. 14 (c) The Director of Agriculture shall appoint the 15 members of the Advisory Committee. The membership of the 16 Advisory Committee shall include representatives of the 17 following: the Department of Agriculture, the Department of 18 Natural Resources, the United States Department of 19 Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service, and the 20 University of Illinois. The Director of Agriculture may 21 appoint any other members deemed necessary. The Director of 22 Agriculture shall designate one of the Advisory Committee 23 members to serve as the chairperson of the Advisory Committee 24 and shall provide staffing support for the Committee. All 25 Advisory Committee members shall serve without compensation, 26 but may be reimbursed for necessary expenses incurred in the 27 performance of their duties. 28 Section 10. Report. The Committee shall report to the 29 General Assembly not later than February 1, 2002, setting out 30 its findings and recommendations and proposing how best to HB0842 Enrolled -2- LRB9206862TAtm 1 proceed with the study of carbon sequestration, including 2 various trading options and alternatives, considering air 3 quality and the preservation of agricultural resources. 4 Section 90. Repeal. This Act is repealed on June 1, 5 2002. 6 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon 7 becoming law.
