92_HB1375 LRB9203597LBgc 1 AN ACT in relation to the regulation of professions. 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 3 represented in the General Assembly: 4 Section 5. The Barber, Cosmetology, Esthetics, and Nail 5 Technology Act of 1985 is amended by changing Section 3-3 as 6 follows: 7 (225 ILCS 410/3-3) (from Ch. 111, par. 1703-3) 8 Sec. 3-3. Licensure as a cosmetologist by a barber 9 school graduate; qualifications. A person is qualified to 10 receive a license as a cosmetologist if that person has filed 11 an application on forms provided by the Department, has paid 12 the required fees, and: 13 a. Is at least 16 years of age; and 14 b. Has a certificate of graduation from a school 15 providing secondary education, or the recognized equivalent 16 of such a certificate, or is beyond the age of compulsory 17 school attendance; and 18 c. Has graduated from a school of barbering approved by 19 the Department having completed 1500 hours in the study of 20 barbering, and a minimum of 1000 additional hours in the 21 study of cosmetology extending over a period of no less than 22 6 months nor more than 2 years. Time spent in such study 23 under the laws of another state or territory of the United 24 States or of a foreign country or province shall be credited 25 toward the period of study required by the provisions of this 26 paragraph; and 27 d. Has passed an examination authorized by the 28 Department to determine fitness to receive a license as a 29 cosmetologist; and 30 e.
