92_HB2549 LRB9205607MWks 1 AN ACT concerning fire safety. 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 3 represented in the General Assembly: 4 Section 5. The Fire Protection District Act is amended 5 by adding Section 8.10 as follows: 6 (70 ILCS 705/8.10 new) 7 Sec. 8.10. Lock boxes. The board of trustees of any fire 8 protection district incorporated under this Act may, by 9 ordinance, require structures located within the jurisdiction 10 of the fire protection district to have installed on the 11 exterior of the structure a key lock box system that affords 12 safe and expedient ingress to the structure by the fire 13 department in the event of an emergency response to the 14 structure and that avoids unnecessary damage to the structure 15 associated with a forcible entry. The ordinance may 16 designate the types of structures required to have key lock 17 box systems and the type and location of exterior key lock 18 box systems. The district may adopt regulations concerning 19 the installation, maintenance, security, and use of key lock 20 box systems. 21 The ordinance must provide for a reasonable period of not 22 less than one year after the effective date of the ordinance 23 for existing structures to comply with the ordinance. Any 24 requirement that requires the installation of a key lock box 25 system on single-family structures may only be prospective in 26 effect. The ordinance must also provide that any required 27 system be one that is readily and economically available to 28 the property owners required to install the system.
