1 AN ACT in relation to education.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The School Code is amended by changing
5 Section 34-18.8 as follows:
6 (105 ILCS 5/34-18.8) (from Ch. 122, par. 34-18.8)
7 Sec. 34-18.8. AIDS training. School guidance
8 counselors, nurses, teachers and other school personnel who
9 work with pupils may be trained to have a basic knowledge of
10 matters relating to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome
11 (AIDS), including the nature of the disease, its causes and
12 effects, the means of detecting it and preventing its
13 transmission, the availability of appropriate sources of
14 counseling and referral, and any other information that may
15 be appropriate considering the age and grade level of such
16 pupils. The Board of Education shall supervise the such
17 training. The State Board of Education and the Department of
18 Public Health shall jointly develop standards for the such
19 training.
