92_HB2970 LRB9202185DJgc 1 AN ACT in relation to public aid. 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 3 represented in the General Assembly: 4 Section 5. The Illinois Public Aid Code is amended by 5 changing Section 5-1 as follows: 6 (305 ILCS 5/5-1) (from Ch. 23, par. 5-1) 7 Sec. 5-1. Declaration of purpose. It is the purpose of 8 this Article to provide a program of essential medical care 9 and rehabilitative services for persons receiving basic 10 maintenance grants under this Code and for other persons who 11 are unable, because of inadequate resources, to meet their 12 essential medical needs. 13 Preservation of health, alleviation of sickness, and 14 correction of handicapping conditions for persons requiring 15 maintenance support are essential if those personstheyare 16 to have an opportunity to become self-supporting or to attain 17 a greater capacity for self-care. For persons who are 18 medically indigent but otherwise able to provide themselves 19 with a livelihood, it is of special importance to maintain 20 their incentives for continued independence and preserve 21 their limited resources for ordinary maintenance needs to 22 prevent their total or substantial dependency. 23 (Source: Laws 1967, p. 122.)
