 1                    AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 3500

 2        AMENDMENT NO.     .  Amend House Bill 3500,  by  deleting
 3    everything  after  the  enacting clause and inserting in lieu
 4    thereof the following:

 5        "Section 1.  The following named amounts, or so  much  of
 6    those  amounts  as  may  be  necessary, respectively, for the
 7    objects and purposes named,  are  appropriated  to  meet  the
 8    ordinary  and  contingent expenses of the Office of the State
 9    Appellate Defender:
10    For Personal Services...........................   $7,000,000
11    For Employee Retirement Contributions
12        Paid by Employer............................     $245,000
13    For State Contribution to State Employees'
14        Retirement System...........................     $699,160
15    For State Contributions to Social Security......      504,000
16    For Contractual Services........................    1,111,697

18    For Commodities.................................       44,940

 1        Section 5.  The following named amounts, or  so  much  of
 2    those   amounts   as  may  be  necessary,  respectively,  are
 3    appropriated to the Office of the  State  Appellate  Defender
 4    for  the  ordinary  and  contingent  expenses  of the Capital
 5    Litigation Division:
 6    For Personal Services...........................     $890,000
 7    For Employee Retirement Contributions
 8        Paid by Employer............................       33,820
 9    For State Contributions to State Employees'
10        Retirement System...........................       87,499
11    For State Contributions to Social Security......       66,750

19        Section 10.  The following  named  amounts,  so  much  of
20    those  amounts  as  may  be  necessary, respectively, for the
21    objects and purposes named, are appropriated to the Office of
22    the  State  Appellate  Defender  for  expenses   related   to
23    federally  assisted  programs  to  work  on  drug and violent
24    crimes appeals cases to which the agency is appointed and  to
25    provide statewide training to Illinois public defenders:
26    Payable from Federal Trust Fund.................      325,000
27    For State matching purposes:
28        Payable from State Project Fund.............      106,300

29        Section  15.  The  amount  of $1,896,189, or such much of
30    that amount as may be necessary,  is  appropriated  from  the
31    Capital  Litigation  Trust  Fund  to  the Office of the State
32    Appellate  Defender  for  expenses  incurred   in   providing

 1    assistance to trial attorneys under item (c)(5) of Section 10
 2    of the State Appellate Defender Act.

 3        Section 999.  Effective date.  This Act takes effect July
 4    1, 2001.".
