92_HB3923 LRB9213882WHcs 1 AN ACT concerning technology. 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 3 represented in the General Assembly: 4 Section 5. The High Technology School-to-Work Act is 5 amended by changing Section 5 as follows: 6 (20 ILCS 701/5) 7 Sec. 5. Statement of findings. The General Assembly finds 8 that: 9 (1) Illinois must compete in an increasingly global 10 economy characterized by the use of advanced technologies 11 to create new products and services and increase the 12 efficiency of production; 13 (2) those new technologies include, but are not 14 limited to, advanced telecommunications and computer 15 technologytechnologies; advanced developments in 16 biotechnology relating to health, medical science, and 17 agriculture; advanced manufacturing methods; and advanced 18 materials development; 19 (3) to successfully compete in the new economy, 20 Illinois needs workers who are highly skilled in 21 scientific, technical, and engineering occupations, 22 including engineers; life and physical scientists; 23 mathematical specialists; engineering and science 24 technicians; computer specialists; and engineering, 25 scientific, and computer managers; 26 (4) workers in these occupations need in-depth 27 knowledge of the theories and principles of science, 28 engineering, and mathematics; and 29 (5) there is a need to increase the number of 30 secondary and postsecondary students preparing for and 31 entering high technology occupations. -2- LRB9213882WHcs 1 (Source: P.A. 92-250, eff. 8-3-01.)
