92_HB4397gms STATE OF ILLINOIS OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR SPRINGFIELD, 62706 GEORGE H. RYAN GOVERNOR July 25, 2002 To The Honorable Members of the Illinois House of Representatives 92nd General Assembly Pursuant to Article IV, Section 9(b) of the Illinois Constitution of 1970, I hereby veto and return House Bill 4397 entitled "AN ACT concerning municipalities." House Bill 4397 amends the Illinois Municipal Code to provide that certain municipalities may adopt, by ordinance or resolution, at least 180 days prior to the first municipal election following the municipality's receipt of the new federal decennial census results, certain numbers of aldermen depending on population. I fully support the provisions in House Bill 4397; however, I have already signed into law Senate Bill 1635 that contains identical provisions. For this reason, I hereby veto and return House Bill 4397. Sincerely, s/GEORGE H. RYAN Governor
