1 AN ACT concerning taxes.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Earned Income Tax Credit Information Act
5 is amended by changing Section 5 as follows:
6 (820 ILCS 170/5) (from Ch. 48, par. 2755)
7 Sec. 5. Declaration of public policy. In order to
8 alleviate the tax burden of low-income persons in the State
9 of Illinois who have earned income and support one or more
10 dependent children, the State of Illinois should facilitate
11 the furnishing information to such persons about the
12 availability of the federal earned income tax credit so that
13 eligible taxpayers may claim that credit on their federal
14 income tax returns. It is the intent of this Act to offer
15 the most cost-effective assistance to eligible taxpayers
16 through notices provided by their employers and by State
17 government.
