 1        AN ACT in relation to vehicles.

 2        Be it enacted by the People of  the  State  of  Illinois,
 3    represented in the General Assembly:

 4        Section  5.   The  Illinois  Vehicle  Code  is amended by
 5    changing Section 12-802 as follows:

 6        (625 ILCS 5/12-802) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 12-802)
 7        Sec. 12-802.  Identification.  Each school bus must shall
 8    have the sign "SCHOOL BUS" painted on both the front and rear
 9    of the bus as high as  practicable  in  letters  at  least  8
10    inches  high.   The  vehicle  weight  and the vehicle maximum
11    passenger capacity recommended by  the  manufacturer  of  the
12    bus,  which  shall  be  based upon provision for 13 inches of
13    seating space for each passenger  exclusive  of  the  driver,
14    shall  be painted on the body to the left of the service door
15    in letters at least 2 inches high.  The name of the owner  or
16    the entity for which the school bus is operated or both shall
17    be  painted in a contrasting color on both sides, centered as
18    high as practicable below the  window  line,  in  letters  at
19    least  4  inches  high.   A  school bus identification number
20    shall be painted as high as practicable on both the front and
21    rear of the bus in letters at least 4  inches  high.   Decals
22    may be used instead of painting.
