92_HB5624 LRB9214791RCcd 1 AN ACT in relation to criminal law. 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 3 represented in the General Assembly: 4 Section 5. The Unified Code of Corrections is amended by 5 changing Section 3-8-8 as follows: 6 (730 ILCS 5/3-8-8) (from Ch. 38, par. 1003-8-8) 7 Sec. 3-8-8. Grievances. 8 (a) The Director shall establish procedures to review 9 the grievances of committed persons. The Director may 10 establish one or more administrative review boards within the 11 Department to review grievances. A committed person's right 12 to file grievances shall not be restricted. The procedures 13Such procedureshall provide for the review of grievances by 14 a person or persons other than the person or persons directly 15 responsible for the conditions or actions against which the 16 grievance is made. 17 (b) Such procedures shall provide that a record of such 18 grievance and any decision made with respect to it shall be 19 preserved for a period of one year. 20 (c) Such procedures shall allow committed persons to 21 communicate grievances directly to the Director or some 22 person designated by the Director outside of the institution 23 or facility where the person is confined. 24 (d) All committed persons shall be informed of the 25 grievance procedures established by the Department and they 26 shall be available to all committed persons. 27 (e) Discipline shall not be imposed because of use of 28 the grievance procedure. 29 (Source: P.A. 77-2097.)
