92_HJ0085 LRB9217421EGfg 1 HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The quality and availability of drinking water 3 is a matter of great importance to the health, safety, and 4 welfare of people throughout this State; and 5 WHEREAS, Despite the existence of numerous federal and 6 State laws and regulations to protect drinking water quality, 7 many people in Illinois, especially in small communities and 8 rural areas, are forced to rely on inferior water supplies or 9 private wells that produce unacceptably hard, smelly, or 10 contaminated water; and 11 WHEREAS, It has been a long time since a coordinated, 12 comprehensive review cf Illinois drinking water protection 13 needs has been undertaken; therefore be it 14 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 15 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE 16 SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that a Task Force on Drinking Water 17 Quality is hereby created, to consist of 2 members of the 18 House of Representatives appointed by the Speaker of the 19 House, 2 members of the House of Representatives appointed by 20 the House Minority Leader, 2 members of the Senate appointed 21 by the President of the Senate, 2 members of the Senate 22 appointed by the Senate Minority Leader, and one 23 representative of each of the following agencies, appointed 24 by their respective directors: the Illinois Environmental 25 Protection Agency, the Illinois Department of Public Health, 26 and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Community 27 Affairs; and be it further 28 RESOLVED, That the Task Force shall review and consider 29 the drinking water protection needs of people throughout 30 Illinois, especially in the smaller communities and rural 31 areas of the State, and where appropriate shall attempt to 32 develop legislative proposals to address any drinking water -2- LRB9217421EGfg 1 quality problems that it may identify; and be it further 2 RESOLVED, That in the course of its duties the Task 3 Force may conduct public hearings or other meetings 4 throughout the State and may request the assistance of any 5 appropriate federal, State, or local governmental agency; and 6 be it further 7 RESOLVED, That in the course of its work the Task Force 8 may consider all problems and issues relating to drinking 9 water quality, regardless of whether the water is provided by 10 a public or private, community or non-community water supply 11 or well, and including any related aquifer, reservoir, or 12 treatment or distribution system; and be it further 13 RESOLVED, That the Task Force shall report its findings, 14 proposals, and recommendations to the House of 15 Representatives and the Senate within 6 months after the 16 adoption of this resolution, and upon filing its report the 17 Task Force is abolished; and be it further 18 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be delivered to 19 the Director of the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, 20 the Director of Public Health, and the Director of Commerce 21 and Community Affairs.
