 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS,  The  members   of   the   Illinois   House   of
 3    Representatives  wish to express their sincere condolences to
 4    the family and friends of Sergeant Major Carl  Laverle  Hite,
 5    who recently passed away; and

 6        WHEREAS, As a young man, Sergeant Major Hite was an Eagle
 7    Scout  and then served as Scout Master for Troop 202; he grew
 8    up in Salem, Illinois, where he began his military career  in
 9    March  of  1978; he served in Company C, 3rd Battalion, 130th
10    Infantry, stationed in Salem, Illinois; and

11        WHEREAS, While serving with HHD, 232nd Supply and Service
12    Battalion, stationed in Springfield, Illinois, Sergeant Major
13    Hite was called to State active  duty  in  Quincy,  Illinois,
14    during the "great flood" of Illinois in 1993; and

15        WHEREAS, In May of 1997 to January of 1998, then SFC Hite
16    served as the NCOIC in charge of the soldiers and families of
17    the  139th PAD, who had been called to active duty in support
18    of Operation Joint Guard; the  State  family  program  called
19    Sergeant  Major  Hite  on  numerous  occasions  to coordinate
20    casualty honor guard teams; and

21        WHEREAS, Sergeant Major Hite also managed the training of
22    the largest unit in the State, including the 144th Army  Band
23    and  the  139th  Public  Affairs Detachment, while serving in
24    State  Area  Command  (STARC  (-))   at   Camp   Lincoln   in
25    Springfield; and

26        WHEREAS,  During  his  twenty-plus  year  career  in  the
27    Illinois Army National Guard, Sergeant Major Hite also served
28    with  the  3637th  Maintenance  Company,  and  DET 3 STARC in
29    Springfield; and

30        WHEREAS, Sergeant Major Hite was  awarded  the  following
31    accommodations  for  his outstanding service: the Meritorious

 1    Service  Medal,  the  Army  Commendation  Ribbon,  the   Army
 2    Achievement  Medal,  the  Army  Good  Conduct Medal, the Army
 3    Reserve Component Achievement  Medal,  the  National  Defense
 4    Service  Medal,  the  Humanitarian  Service  Medal, the Armed
 5    Forces   Reserve   Medal,   the   Non-Commissioned    Officer
 6    Professional Development Ribbon, the Army Service Ribbon, the
 7    Army Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon, the Illinois
 8    Military  Attendance  Ribbon, the Illinois Long and Honorable
 9    Service Medal, the Illinois State Active Duty Ribbon, and the
10    Expert Badge for M16 Rifle; and

11        WHEREAS, At the time of his passing, Sergeant Major  Hite
12    lived  in  Tallula,  Illinois,  and served as the Operation's
13    Sergeant in State Area Command (STARC (-)) at Camp Lincoln in
14    Springfield, Illinois; he was an active guard reserve  member
15    of  the  United  States  Army; he had previously obtained the
16    rank of Master Sergeant on April 1, 1998 and was posthumously
17    awarded the rank of  Sergeant  Major  on  January  16,  2001;
18    Sergeant  Major  Carl  Laverle  Hite  was a model NCO and his
19    dedicated service was a great credit to himself,  STARC  (-),
20    the Illinois Army National Guard, and the United States Army;
21    and

22        WHEREAS, Sergeant Major Hite was a member of the National
23    Rifle   Association,   the   National  Guard  Association  of
24    Illinois, and the American Legion; and

25        WHEREAS, On the day of Sergeant Major  Hite's  accidental
26    and  untimely  death  he  was  doing  what  he was known for,
27    helping out another person; Sergeant Major Hite was a  loving
28    son,  father,  brother,  and  a loyal friend; he was a caring
29    man, often volunteering to help out a  friend  or  the  Guard
30    with  any  project;  Sergeant Major Hite had a great sense of
31    humor, and was extremely proud of his family and country; and

32        WHEREAS, The passing of Sergeant Major Hite will be  felt

 1    by  all  who knew and loved him, especially his parents, Carl
 2    and Elizabeth Hite; his children, Elizabeth  Renee  Hite  and
 3    Carl  Eugene  Laverle  Hite; his sister, Victoria Meador; and
 4    his many friends; Sergeant  Major  Hite  will  be  missed  by
 5    everyone who knew him; he was laid to rest in his hometown of
 6    Salem, Illinois, on January 17, 2001; therefore, be it

 7        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
 8    NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
 9    we mourn, along with his family and friends, the  passing  of
10    Sergeant Major Hite; and be it further

11        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
12    presented to the family of Sergeant Major Carl Laverle Hite.
