92_HR0065 LRB9207935KBkb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are honored to recognize milestone events in 4 the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and 5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Charlie A. 6 Thurston is retiring this year; and 7 WHEREAS, Charlie A. Thurston has worked 39 years for 8 Nicor Gas, serving as vice president of governmental affairs 9 for the past eight years; before his current position he 10 served in various positions, including vice president of 11 divisions, environmental affairs, engineering, consumer 12 services, and technical training; and 13 WHEREAS, Charlie A. Thurston earned his Bachelor's degree 14 in civil engineering from Kansas University in 1961, where he 15 was a valued member of the Jayhawks varsity football team; 16 and 17 WHEREAS, Charlie A. Thurston earned his Masters of 18 Science degree from the Institute of Industrial Relations of 19 Loyola University, Chicago, in 1974; and 20 WHEREAS, Charlie A. Thurston has served in many civic 21 positions over the years, including serving as president of 22 the Northeastern Illinois Planning Commission, as president 23 of the DuPage County Branch of the NAACP, as secretary of the 24 Illinois Futures Task Force, as a board member of the 25 Metropolitan Open Communities Leadership Council, as a board 26 member of the Urban League in Aurora, on the board of the 27 National Association of Regional Councils, and as president 28 of the DuPage Community Foundation; and 29 WHEREAS, Charlie A. Thurston has served in many 30 professional organizations, including service as chairman of 31 the Midwest Gas Association, as chairman of the American Gas -2- LRB9207935KBkb 1 Association Urban Affairs Committee, and as a member of the 2 Economic Club of Chicago; and 3 WHEREAS, Charlie A. Thurston has successfully raised 4 three children, Ann, Robyn, and Sherry, and is proud 5 grandfather of three wonderful grandchildren; therefore, be 6 it 7 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 8 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 9 we honor Charlie A. Thurston and wish him well in all his 10 future endeavors, including his many attempts to tame the 11 Chicago Golf Club in Wheaton; and be it further 12 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 13 presented to Charlie A. Thurston as an expression of our 14 esteem.
