92_HR0067 LRB9207870RHrh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution of the 3 United States grants to the Congress the power to coin money; 4 and 5 WHEREAS, Many Americans are unaware of the provisions of 6 the Constitution, one of the most remarkable and important 7 documents in world history; and 8 WHEREAS, An abbreviated version of this essential 9 document, consisting of the Preamble and the Bill of Rights 10 could easily be placed on the reverse of the one-dollar bill; 11 and 12 WHEREAS, Placing the Preamble and the Bill of Rights on 13 the one-dollar bill, a unit of currency used daily by 14 virtually all Americans, would serve to remind the people of 15 the historical importance of the Constitution and its impact 16 on their lives today; and 17 WHEREAS, Americans would be reminded by the Preamble of 18 the blessings of liberty and by the amendments of the 19 historical changes to the document that forms the very core 20 of the American experience; therefore, be it 21 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 22 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 23 we urge the United States Congress to redesign the United 24 States one-dollar bill to include the Preamble of the 25 Constitution of the United States and the Bill of Rights on 26 its reverse side; and be it further 27 RESOLVED, A suitable copy of this resolution be presented 28 to the President of the United States, the Speaker of the 29 United States House of Representatives, the President pro 30 tempore of the United States Senate, and the members of the 31 Illinois Congressional Delegation.
