 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS,  The  members   of   the   Illinois   House   of
 3    Representatives  are pleased to recognize milestone events in
 4    the history of organizations of the State of Illinois; and

 5        WHEREAS, The Schaumburg Youth  Orchestra  was  named  the
 6    "2000 Youth Orchestra of the Year" by the Illinois Council of
 7    Orchestras; and

 8        WHEREAS,  The  Schaumburg  Youth  Symphony  Orchestra  is
 9    comprised  of  150  high  school  and  college  students from
10    Schaumburg and surrounding communities;  it  is  made  up  of
11    three  components,  the Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber
12    Orchestra, and the String Ensemble; and

13        WHEREAS, The  Schaumburg  Youth  Symphony  Orchestra  was
14    established   in  1989  by  Director  Joseph  Malmquist;  the
15    Orchestra started with only sixteen musicians, who all played
16    strings; today, Mr. Malmquist  continues  as  Youth  Symphony
17    director,  and  Greta  Hess directs the Chamber Orchestra and
18    String Ensemble; and

19        WHEREAS,  The  Schaumburg  Youth  Symphony  Orchestra  is
20    designed to challenge young musicians, and to reach out to an
21    audience younger than is traditional for classical music; and

22        WHEREAS, The Schaumburg symphony toured  Europe  in  2000
23    and  was one of the few orchestras to release a CD, "Birth of
24    a Millennium" which was handed out to newborns at three  area
25    hospitals throughout the year; and

26        WHEREAS, The Chicago-based Illinois Council of Orchestras
27    is  a  statewide  organization  that  promotes encourages and
28    assists the development of  orchestras  throughout  Illinois;
29    Schaumburg   was   chosen   from  among  30  nominated  youth
30    orchestras; and

 1        WHEREAS, The award will  be  formally  presented  to  the
 2    Schaumburg  Youth  Symphony  Orchestra  at  one of its spring
 3    concerts; therefore, be it

 4        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
 5    NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
 6    we  congratulate  the Schaumburg Youth Symphony Orchestra for
 7    being named the "2000 Youth Orchestra of  the  Year"  by  the
 8    Illinois Council of Orchestras; and be it further

 9        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
10    presented to Youth Symphony director, Joseph Malmquist, Greta
11    Hess, and  the  members  of  the  Schaumburg  Youth  Symphony
12    Orchestra as an expression of our esteem.
