92_HR0097 LRB9208249RHrh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Ernst-August 3 Kranz of Krainhagen in the County of Schaumburg, Germany, 4 otherwise known as the sister city of Schaumburg, Illinois, 5 will be retiring from his public and political life; and 6 WHEREAS, Ernst-August Kranz was born on August 6, 1919 in 7 Krainhagen, Schaumburg; and 8 WHEREAS, After his return from the second World War in 9 1945, Mr. Kranz began his illustrious career in politics; in 10 December, 1945, he was elected as the first president of the 11 Sporting Association 45 E.V. Krainhagen-Rohrkasten, where he 12 served successfully for 40 years until 1985; during his 13 initial years as president he provided the initiative, with 14 cooperation from volunteers, to establish various sports 15 programs for the youth in Krainhagen; and 16 WHEREAS, In the fall of 1952, Mr. Kranz was elected into 17 the municipal council; by December of the same year, he was 18 elected mayor and honorary Communal Director, where he has 19 served both posts separately in a 44-year term; during this 20 time the town of Krainhagen had changed from a financially 21 weak community into a modern town with a high quality of 22 living that has earned Germany's recognition as a place for 23 rest and recuperation; he also had been a member of the 24 Council of the City of Obernkirchen; and 25 WHEREAS, In 1964, Mr. Kranz was elected a member of the 26 Landkreis for the County of Schaumburg; and starting in 1977, 27 he became a member of the newly formed Landkreis Schaumburg 28 where he has spent 32 years as delegate to the county 29 government; and 30 WHEREAS, The most memorable and historic event in 31 Ernst-August Kranz's Life was his election as counselor to -2- LRB9208249RHrh 1 the then Landkreis County of Schaumburg on April 25, 1973, 2 where he held this official position until the circuit reform 3 in 1977; after the formation of the new Kreis Schaumburg, he 4 became the first circuit magistrate; this was the first 5 reunification of both parts of the Schaumburg land after 330 6 years; and 7 WHEREAS, From 1981 to 1991, he was active as the 1st Vice 8 Counselor; he has served an impressive 18 years as both 9 Counselor and 1st Vice-Counselor; his duties as Counselor of 10 the county and circuit were to unify the people, the 11 associations, and the institutions of Schaumburg in order to 12 form a true and genuine living community in Schaumburg; and 13 WHEREAS, An important stage of Mr. Kranz political life 14 began with his election as representative of Schaumburg in 15 the State House of Representatives from 1970 until 1974; 16 during his term he emphasized the importance of achieving and 17 maintaining the integrity of Schaumburg, in which he had some 18 success; and 19 WHEREAS, Other than his activities as a member of 20 communal associations and extraterritorial institutions and 21 organizations, the maintenance and establishment of an 22 international understanding among all people has been his 23 greatest accomplishment; therefore, be it 24 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 25 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 26 we congratulate Ernst-August Kranz of Krainhagen, Schaumburg 27 on his retirement from outstanding political service to the 28 citizens of the County of Schaumburg, Germany and we wish him 29 well in all of his future endeavors; and be it further 30 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 31 presented to Ernst-August Kranz as an expression of our 32 esteem.
