92_HR0098 LRB9208342KBkb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are pleased to recognize the One Voice: 4 Gospel Artists Respond to AIDS concert to be held on Friday, 5 March 2, 2001, in Chicago, Illinois; and 6 WHEREAS, One Voice will be presented by Bishop Larry D. 7 Trotter, Senior Pastor of Sweet Holy Spirit Full Gospel 8 Baptist Church and 3rd Presiding Bishop of the Full Gospel 9 Baptist Church International, in association with the U.S. 10 Surgeon General and the Magic Johnson Foundation; and 11 WHEREAS, Artists scheduled to perform include the Richard 12 Smallwood Singers, Edwin Hawkins, Walter Hawkins, Donald 13 Lawrence, Ricky Dillard, and the New Generation Chorale of 14 Chicago; over 3,000 people are expected to be in attendance 15 for this special evening; and 16 WHEREAS, 50% of all new HIV cases reported in 1999 were 17 African American; AIDS has become the leading cause of death 18 for African-American men between the ages of 25-44 and the 19 second leading cause of death for women of the same age 20 bracket; African-American children have the largest number 21 among youth with the AIDS virus; and 22 WHEREAS, This special event will help raise awareness of 23 the urgency of this issue; therefore, be it 24 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 25 NINETY-SECOND OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we salute Bishop 26 Larry D. Trotter and all those involved in One Voice: Gospel 27 Artist Respond to AIDS concert for their commitment to the 28 cause of eradicating AIDS; and be it further 29 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 30 presented to Bishop Larry D. Trotter, the U.S. Surgeon 31 General, the Magic Johnson Foundation, and the participants -2- LRB9208342KBkb 1 of One Voice: Gospel Artist Respond to AIDS.
