92_HR0104 LRB9208357KBkb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, It has come to the attention of the members of 3 the Illinois House of Representatives that the Chicago Golden 4 Apple Foundation has given out its 2001 Golden Apple Award 5 for Excellence in Teaching to deserving educators; and 6 WHEREAS, One such teacher is Devora Freeman; Devora 7 Freeman opened the Tryme Student Deli at Lawrence Hall Youth 8 Services Therapeutic Day School eleven years ago; Devora 9 Freeman is an instructor in food service and life skills at 10 the school; and 11 WHEREAS, At the restaurant, students learn about the 12 different aspects of business, from inventory control and 13 cooking to management; through the restaurant, student 14 workers gain self confidence and pride in their daily labors; 15 and 16 WHEREAS, Devora Freeman is a graduate of Senn High School 17 and Roosevelt University, where she graduated with a degree 18 in social work; she worked as a case manager, a waitress, a 19 restaurant developer, and in the frozen food business before 20 coming to Lawrence Hall in 1990; and 21 WHEREAS, In addition to working with the students in the 22 restaurant and serving between 200-250 customers, Devora 23 Freeman works in helping the students fill out job 24 applications for local restaurants; when they are not working 25 at the school, Devora Freeman and her students cater meals to 26 clients such as the Steppenwolf Theater and the Chicago Board 27 of Education; therefore, be it 28 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 29 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 30 we congratulate Devora Freeman on receiving the Golden Apple 31 Award for Excellence in Teaching; and be it further -2- LRB9208357KBkb 1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 2 presented to Devora Freeman as a symbol of our esteem.
