1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in
4 the history of high school sports in the State of Illinois;
5 and
6 WHEREAS, The Lady Hawks of Carrollton High School
7 captured its first IHSA Girls Class A State Championship on
8 February 24, 2001; and
9 WHEREAS, The Lady Hawks met the challenge by first
10 defeating the Monmouth Zippers in the quarterfinals by the
11 score of 63 to 37; they then went on to defeat the Stockton
12 Blackhawks in the semifinal game by the score of 59 to 37;
13 finally, they faced their arch-rivals from Teutopolis in the
14 final game; in the end, the Shoes of Teutopolis were defeated
15 by the final score of 49 to 35, sending the Lady Hawks home
16 with their very first Class A Championship title; and
17 WHEREAS, The Class A State Championship capped off of
18 what was an outstanding season for the Lady Hawks; in
19 addition to the Class A State championship, the Lady Hawks
20 won the Olney Thanksgiving Tournament, the Carrollton
21 Invitational Tournament, the Beardstown Tournament, the
22 Western Illinois Valley Conference Championship, for the
23 twelfth year in a row, the Regional Championship, the
24 Sectional Championship, and the Super-Sectional Championship;
25 and
26 WHEREAS, The Lady Hawks' team consists of Karen Brannan,
27 Laura Moss, Kaci Graham, Justine Tucker, Kara Gillingham,
28 Katie Nolan, Alicia DeShasier, Emily Pohlman, Dana Carter,
29 Molly Reed, Lauren Steckel, Amber Shelton, and Nicole Meyer;
30 their coach is Lori Blade, and assistant coach is Donna
31 Farley; the team ended the season with 34 wins and 1 loss;
32 therefore, be it

1 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3 we congratulate the Lady Hawks, the Carrollton High School
4 Girls Varsity Basketball Team, on winning the State Class A
5 Basketball Championship; and be it further
6 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7 presented to the principal of Carrollton High School, Terry
8 Dillard; the coach of the Carrollton Lady Hawks, Lori Blade;
9 the assistant coach, Donna Farley; and to each member of the
10 Lady Hawks championship team as an expression our our esteem.
