92_HR0112 LRB9208401KBkb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are pleased to honor Loyd Maxey and the Mike 4 Williams Family for their achievements; and 5 WHEREAS, The Marion County Soil and Water Conservation 6 District held its Fifty-Sixth Annual Meeting and Dinner at 7 the Marion County Fairgrounds Exhibition Hall; during the 8 meeting various awards were presented to individuals making a 9 difference in Marion County conservation; and 10 WHEREAS, Loyd Maxey of Salem, Illinois, received the 2000 11 "Goodyear Farmer of the Year" award; Mr. Maxey operates the 12 family farm in Tonti township where he was raised; in 1955 he 13 graduated from high school and started his career in farming; 14 Mr. Maxey began working as a flight instructor and commercial 15 pilot in 1957; and 16 WHEREAS, Mr. Maxey operated a crop spraying business for 17 sixteen years; he is active as a Farm Bureau member and has 18 served on the Farm Bureau Board; Loyd Maxey has been on the 19 Marion County Fair Board for thirty years, spending 23 20 continuous years as an officer; he has also served as a 21 member of the University of Illinois Extension Council; he 22 has installed waterways, rock chutes, a dry dam, and a large 23 block chute to help with conservation; by no-tilling and 24 creating buffer strips, Mr. Maxey has helped to reduce soil 25 loss and improve water quality; and 26 WHEREAS, Loyd Maxey is married to the former Rosalie 27 Alderson; they have four children, two grandchildren, and a 28 third grandchildren arriving any day; our congratulations go 29 out to Loyd Maxey for receiving this accolade; and 30 WHEREAS, Mike Williams and his family have been chosen as 31 the 2000 Marion County Conservation Farm Family; Mike -2- LRB9208401KBkb 1 Williams is a graduate of Eastern Illinois University and 2 served two years in the United States Army; he began farming 3 in 1975, and presently farms approximately 750 acres in 4 Farina; Mr. Williams no-tills a large portion of his beans 5 and corn; and 6 WHEREAS, The Williams Family operates their farms with 7 the intent of leaving them in good or better shape than they 8 were when the family starting farming them; Mr. Williams has 9 constructed several waterways and has worked to improve 10 drainage on flat ground; Mr. Williams has also completed tree 11 plantings on CRP acreage; and 12 WHEREAS, Mike Williams and his wife, Jo, have two 13 children, Mindy and Kyle; we also congratulate the Mike 14 Williams Family on receiving their award; therefore, be it 15 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 16 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 17 we congratulate Loyd Maxey and the Mike Williams Family on 18 receiving their awards; and be it further 19 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 20 presented to Loyd Maxey and the Mike Williams Family.
