1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The Office of the Lieutenant Governor has
3 announced the recipients of the annual Illinois Women of
4 Achievement Award; and
5 WHEREAS, Jan Monken of Centralia, Illinois, has been the
6 executive secretary for the Centralia Chapter of the American
7 Red Cross for over twenty-five years; through her hard work,
8 the blood drive has seen an increase from 600 units a year to
9 over 3,600 units a year; and
10 WHEREAS, Jan Monken has worked hard to make the Red Cross
11 run efficiently; she has recruited workers from the community
12 to keep the Red Cross running twenty-four hours a day, seven
13 days a week; and
14 WHEREAS, Jan Monken has been active in the United Fund
15 for many years; she has served on the Board of St. Mary's
16 Hospital since 1992; she has worked with the Optimist Club,
17 helping to clean and prepare ball diamonds, keep records, and
18 handle treasury responsibilities; she has organized a swim
19 team and managed funds to buy equipment for the team; she has
20 also worked with the Centralia Community Benevolent
21 Association, helping the group to operate and maintain a food
22 pantry for the community; and
23 WHEREAS, Jan Monken greatest accomplishment has been as
24 co-chair of the Relay for Life Program for 2000/2001; the
25 event raised over $100,000 to help in the fight against
26 cancer; and
27 WHEREAS, Jan Monken is a dedicated and vital member of
28 the community and she is a dedicated wife, mother, and
29 grandmother; therefore, be it
30 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
31 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that

1 we congratulate Jan Monken on receiving the Illinois Women of
2 Achievement Award; and be it further
3 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4 presented to Jan Monken.
