92_HR0148 LRB9208502RHrh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in 4 the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and 5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that the Nina Baird 6 is retiring from her duties as city clerk of Edwardsville 7 after serving an outstanding five terms in office; and 8 WHEREAS, Nina Baird was the first female to be elected to 9 the city clerk's position in 1981; during her 20 year tenure, 10 she has worked with four mayors, four treasurers and 11 thirty-one aldermen; and 12 WHEREAS, Nina Baird graduated from Edwardsville High 13 School in 1944 and attended Illinois Wesleyan in Bloomington; 14 she married the late Everett "Doc" Baird in 1946; in 1975, 15 she began working for Madison County Clerk Evelyn Bowles, 16 where over the course of six and a half years she picked up 17 invaluable skills that has helped her in her city clerk 18 position; and 19 WHEREAS, Mrs. Baird's duties as city clerk included 20 heading up the department responsible for paying the city's 21 bills and billing the citizens for services in addition to 22 being the keeper of city records; and 23 WHEREAS, Over the last 20 years in office, Nina Baird has 24 witnessed a vast improvement in technology in the clerk's 25 office; from the use of typewriters and bookkeeping machines 26 in 1981 and the introduction of the office's first computer 27 in 1982 to the office being on the Internet since 1997; and 28 WHEREAS, After her retirement begins, Nina Baird will 29 have more time to spend with her son Tom, and her three 30 grandchildren, Matt, Meredith, and Mitch; she also plans to 31 rediscover bridge and golf; therefore, be it -2- LRB9208502RHrh 1 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 2 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 3 we congratulate Nina Baird for her 20 years of dedication and 4 service as city clerk of Edwardsville, Illinois; and we wish 5 her well in all of her future endeavors; and be it further 6 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 7 presented to Nina Baird as an expression of our esteem.
