92_HR0161 LRB9208525RHrh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in 4 the history of businesses in the State of Illinois; and 5 WHEREAS, Spartan Light Metal Products, Inc. is 6 celebrating its 40th anniversary of service; and 7 WHEREAS, Spartan Light Metal Products, Inc., originally 8 Spartan Aluminum Products, was founded in 1961 by Henry 9 Jubel, who previously served as operations executive for an 10 automotive piston manufacturer in St. Charles, Missouri; Mr. 11 Jubel started his business in Sparta, Illinois, by purchasing 12 two used diecast machines from his former employers and 13 hiring 20 employees from Sparta and the surrounding 14 communities; and 15 WHEREAS, Spartan Light Metal Products, Inc. has built a 16 reputation on a commitment to quality, customer service, and 17 innovation; some of Spartan's major milestones include, 18 becoming the first business to cast 390 aluminum, a new high 19 silicon hypereutectic alloy developed by Reynolds Aluminum 20 and General Motors; in 1978, Spartan began diecasting 21 magnesium with some of the first hot chamber machines 22 available; in 1980, Spartan was the first diecaster in the 23 United States to install a magnesium remelt facility which 24 allowed the return of sprues, runners, and scrap castings to 25 be transformed into high purity magnesium; in 1986 Spartan 26 installed its first Computer Aided Design System; in 1988, 27 Spartan established a Quality Center to validate the 28 performance of its products; by the early 1990s, Spartan had 29 installed a computerized monitoring device for process 30 control of all of its diecast machines; and 31 WHEREAS, Other Spartan milestones include the opening of 32 a second fully automated magnesium diecasting plant in -2- LRB9208525RHrh 1 Mexico, Missouri in 1995, a full ISO 9001/QS 9000 2 registration in 1997, and in 1998, Spartan was granted Full 3 Service Supplier status at Ford, which allows Spartan to 4 design the customer's products; and 5 WHEREAS, Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Spartan has been 6 the recipient of numerous awards such as the Ford Q-1 award, 7 General Motors Mark of Excellence, QSP award, and the Toyota 8 Certificate of Achievement; and 9 WHEREAS, Today, Spartan Light Metal Products, Inc. 10 employs over 700 people at plants in Sparta, Illinois and 11 Mexico, Missouri; it is recognized by many corporations such 12 as Toyota, Honda, Ford, and General Motors as a leading 13 manufacturer of quality diecast products; and 14 WHEREAS, Henry Jubel's work ethic, integrity, and belief 15 in helping others grow has helped Spartan Light Metal 16 Products, Inc. grow and continue enjoying its success; Mr. 17 Jubel's son, Donald Jubel, along with an experienced 18 management team is continuing his father's legacy, which is 19 the commitment to perpetuate the values and principles upon 20 which the Spartan company was founded; therefore, be it 21 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 22 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 23 we congratulate Spartan Light Metal Products, Inc. management 24 and employees on the celebration of their 40th anniversary; 25 and be it further 26 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 27 presented to Donald Jubel as an expression of our esteem.
