92_HR0164 LRB9208413KBkb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are pleased to honor Helen C. Wooten, who is 4 retiring as Principal of the Vanderpoel Magnet School for the 5 Humanities Academy in Chicago, on March 19, 2001; and 6 WHEREAS, Helen Wooten was born in Houston, Texas on 7 February 24, 1940; she received her Bachelor of Science 8 degree in Elementary Education from Prairie View A. & M. 9 University as well as her Masters in Education degree; and 10 WHEREAS, Helen Wooten is the Past President of the 11 Chicago Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.; 12 she is the President and Founder of the Chicago Prairie View 13 A. & M. Alumni Association; she is the Founder and Organizer 14 of ETA XI Chapter Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.; she is a 15 member of Women of Achievements, Principal Association, and 16 she is a member of St. James Catholic Church; and 17 WHEREAS, Helen Wooten has received the Karrie Award from 18 Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., the "Excellence Award" from 19 the Texas Educational Association, the "Excellence Award" 20 from the National Women of Achievements in 1988, the 21 "Outstanding President" award from the Chicago Alumnae 22 Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. in 1987, the 23 Principal Excellence Award from the Chicago Board of 24 Education in 1994, the Phi Delta Kappa Educator of the Year: 25 1998, the Outstanding Achievements and Awards for 26 African-American Women in the Twentieth Century: 1998 from 27 Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, and the Principal Mentor from the 28 Chicago Public School and Principal Association in 1998; and 29 WHEREAS, Helen Wooten has been listed in Who's Who in 30 Professional and Executive Women: 1987, Two Thousand Notable 31 Women-First Edition: 1988, the Who's Who in the Midwest: 32 1992-1999, Who's Who in America: 1994-1999, and Who's Who in -2- LRB9208413KBkb 1 the World: 1997-1999; and 2 WHEREAS, Helen Wooten is to be commended for her hard 3 work and dedication to education; therefore, be it 4 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 5 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 6 we congratulate Helen Wooten for a job well done and wish her 7 the best in her future endeavors; and be it further 8 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 9 presented to Helen Wooten, with our sincere regards.
