92_HR0171 LRB9208528RHrh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are honored to recognize milestone events in 4 the history of organizations in the State of Illinois; and 5 WHEREAS, With the passage of Public Law 85-529, on July 6 18, 1958, the Veterans of Foreign Wars won a long hard battle 7 to have Loyalty Day approved by the United States Congress, 8 thus beginning the tradition of Loyalty Day with the V.F.W.; 9 and 10 WHEREAS, The first day of May is nationally recognized as 11 Loyalty Day; this day is filled with activities designed to 12 involve the community in displaying loyalty to the flag and 13 to the country; and 14 WHEREAS, Phillip L. Clayton currently serves as the 14th 15 District Commander representing 28 V.F.W. Posts; Leila Dierks 16 serves as the 14th District President and represent 22 V.F.W. 17 Auxiliaries; Mr. Clayton and Ms. Dierks have held their 18 positions since June 25, 2000; and 19 WHEREAS, On April 28, 2001, the V.F.W. is holding a 20 celebration that will consist of the 14th District, Posts, 21 and Auxiliaries proudly parading their colors down a two 22 block stretch; there will also be speeches by various 23 individuals, including the Mayor of Trenton and other 24 political dignitaries, and the presentation of a flag to the 25 City of Trenton; awards will also be presented to the various 26 youth winners of the annual coloring, poster, and essay 27 contests; therefore, be it 28 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 29 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 30 April 28 is hereby noted as the Veterans of Foreign War's 31 "Loyalty Day" in the State of Illinois; and be it further -2- LRB9208528RHrh 1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 2 presented to the Veterans of Foreign Wars as an expression of 3 our esteem.
