92_HR0184 LRB9208548RHrh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The numbers of closings at Illinois bathing 3 beaches along Lake Michigan, especially in Chicago, have 4 increased in recent years; and 5 WHEREAS, These beaches provide an important form of 6 recreation and enjoyment for people of all ages; and 7 WHEREAS, There is little advance notice to the public 8 that a beach will be closed, thus causing disruption of plans 9 and a lack of recreational opportunity; and 10 WHEREAS, The expertise and resources of federal, State, 11 local, and private entities may help reduce the number of 12 beach closings; and 13 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 14 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 15 the Illinois Department of Public Health coordinate efforts 16 with other federal and State agencies, the City of Chicago, 17 and other municipalities that operate beaches along the Lake, 18 and any organization that has an interest in or 19 responsibility for the quality of Lake Michigan water in 20 order to identify the causes of Lake Michigan beach closings, 21 investigate possible remedies, and develop models to predict 22 water quality problems based on meteorological conditions; 23 and be it further 24 RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Public Health 25 research and evaluate new and innovative beach monitoring 26 techniques for water quality in an effort to develop timely 27 testing notice and results; and be it further 28 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be sent 29 to the Director of Public Health.
