92_HR0199 LRB9208636RHrh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives have learned with great sadness of the death 4 of Jeanne Flynn, who passed away on March 31, 2001; and 5 WHEREAS, Jeanne Flynn was a graduate of Saint Mary's of 6 Notre Dame Preparatory School, Rosary College, and received 7 her her Master's Degree from Sangamon State University, now 8 known as the University of Illinois at Springfield; and 9 WHEREAS, Jeanne Flynn enjoyed a life career in Democratic 10 politics; over the years she served in many positions for the 11 State of Illinois that included working for Michael Bakalis 12 in the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction; as 13 Director of Legislative Affairs for Secretary of State Alan 14 J. Dixon; as administrator and advocate of programs for 15 senior citizens, including the creation of the Silver Pages 16 in the phone book, under Jim Edgar; and most recently, as a 17 consultant at the Illinois State Library where she developed 18 programs for the disabled and established numerous 19 intergenerational programs between seniors and children, 20 including oral history programs to ensure that the stories of 21 World War II veterans are passed down to future generations; 22 and 23 WHEREAS, Jeanne Flynn was a lifelong activist in 24 grassroots Democratic politics; as a youth, she worked with 25 Saul Alinsky, and she served on numerous political campaigns 26 for Paul Douglas, Robert Kennedy, Paul Simon, Adlai 27 Stevenson, Michael Bakalis, Alan J. Dixon, Dick Durbin and 28 many local and State candidates; and 29 WHEREAS, Jeanne Flynn was a member of numerous 30 organizations, including the Animal Protective League, 31 Planned Parenthood, the Springfield Center for Independent 32 Living, and the Mini-O'Beirne Crisis Nursery; she was -2- LRB9208636RHrh 1 instrumental in the establishment of the Ms. Senior Illinois 2 Pageant, and was a tireless and effective fundraiser for many 3 boards, including the Aids Walk; she was the recipient of the 4 prestigious J.C. Penney Community Service Award and received 5 many other honors during her career; therefore, be it 6 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 7 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 8 we mourn, along with all who knew her, the death of Jeanne 9 Flynn of Springfield, Illinois; and be it further 10 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 11 presented to the family of Jeanne Flynn with our sincere 12 condolences.
