 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS,  The  members   of   the   Illinois   House   of
 3    Representatives  wish to express their sincere condolences to
 4    the family and friends  of  Gerald  E.  "Griz"  England,  who
 5    passed away on April 15, 2001; and

 6        WHEREAS,  Gerald E. England was born on February 1, 1949,
 7    in Decatur, Illinois to Ernest and Mary Risley England; and

 8        WHEREAS, "Griz" England  was  well-known  to  many  radio
 9    listeners  in  Central Illinois where he enjoyed a long radio
10    career that began in Sullivan, Illinois; he worked at several
11    area radio stations and made a national name for himself as a
12    country radio personality; while working in Decatur radio, he
13    began a series of  "Merry  Griz-mas"  concerts  at  Decatur's
14    Lincoln Square Theatre, where he brought his music and gentle
15    sense  of  humor  to  thousands of Central Illinoisans in its
16    sellout performances; he received  national  attention  as  a
17    finalist  for  the Marconi Award for best Morning Personality
18    in America; and

19        WHEREAS, In 1998, Mr. England  signed  off  the  airwaves
20    after  more  than  25  years, and was elected Moultrie County
21    Clerk; and

22        WHEREAS, Gerald England was a member of the Kiwanis Club,
23    the CEFS Board, and First Christian Church of Sullivan; and

24        WHEREAS, The passing of Gerald E. "Griz" England will  be
25    deeply  felt  by  all  who knew and loved him, especially his
26    wife, Georgia; his sons, A. Michael Hoff II and Ernest  Scott
27    England;  his daughters, Angela M. Block and Jodi A. England;
28    his grandchildren, Cailin and Ethan Block; his  mother,  Mary
29    England;  his sisters, Carroll Sebens, Marilyn Leonard, Betty
30    Mode, Judy Featheringill, and Donna Holland; and

31        WHEREAS, In addition to his family, "Griz"  England  will

 1    also  be dearly missed by his colleagues and employees at the
 2    Moultrie County Clerk's Office, and by his  countless  number
 3    of fans in Central Illinois; therefore, be it

 4        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
 5    NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
 6    we mourn, along with all who knew him, the death of Gerald E.
 7    "Griz" England of Sullivan, Illinois; and be it further

 8        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
 9    presented  to the family of Gerald E. "Griz" England with our
10    sincere condolences.
