 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, William "Bill" Cornman who served  as  Mayor  of
 3    the  City  of  Litchfield  since  1997  is retiring from that
 4    position;  and

 5        WHEREAS, Mr. Cornman was born in  Herculaneum,  Missouri,
 6    and  attended  elementary  school  in St. Louis, Missouri; in
 7    1951 he graduated from high school in Mayfield, Kentucky; and

 8        WHEREAS, After  his  graduation  from  high  school,  Mr.
 9    Cornman  joined  the  United  States  Air Force and served in
10    Korea from 1951 to 1952; and

11        WHEREAS, Mr. Cornman earned a Bachelor of Science  degree
12    in  1957 from Murray State University and in 1961 he earned a
13    Master of Science degree; and

14        WHEREAS,  Mr.  Cornman  started  a  36  year  career   in
15    education  in  1957  in Litchfield, Illinois; he retired from
16    the school district  in  1992;  he  worked  as  an  insurance
17    adjuster for two years; and

18        WHEREAS,  Mr.  Cornman  has  been an active and energetic
19    civic leader in Litchfield for many years; he was  a  Housing
20    Inspector and the Administrator of Housing Rehabilitation for
21    two  and  one-half  years;  Mr.  Cornman  was instrumental in
22    obtaining  over  $1,000,000  in  grants   for   the   Housing
23    Rehabilitation  Program and obtained $64,000 for refurbishing
24    the Litchfield Carnegie Library; and

25        WHEREAS, Mr. Cornman served as the City  of  Litchfield's
26    Director  of  Economic  Development  for two years; he worked
27    toward  retaining  the  City's  business  and  industry   and
28    recruiting  new  businesses  and  industries to the City; Mr.
29    Cornman saw  the  expansion  of  Schutt  Manufacturing,  Data
30    Manufacturing,  and  the  Morton Buildings; he also witnessed
31    the construction and development of  Lincoln  Land  Community

 1    College,  the  Westside  Factory Outlet Mall, and Rural King;
 2    and

 3        WHEREAS,  Mr.  Cornman  has  also  served  the  City   of
 4    Litchfield  with  honor  and  distinction  as  an alderman, a
 5    member of the Hospital Advisory Board, as  a  member  of  the
 6    Elmwood  Cemetery  Board,  and  as  a  Little League Baseball
 7    coach; and

 8        WHEREAS, He is also a member of the Illinois  Association
 9    of  School Administrators, the Illinois Association of School
10    Business  Officials,  the  American  Association  of   School
11    Administrators,  the  National  Association  of  Partners  in
12    Education,   the  Illinois  Volunteer  Association,  and  the
13    Litchfield Chamber of Commerce; he is President of the Rotary
14    Club of Litchfield and is Deacon of First Baptist Church; and

15        WHEREAS, William Cornman is married to the  former  Jauan
16    Whitlow  of  Mayfield, Kentucky; their union has been blessed
17    with two sons, Wayne and Glenn; and

18        WHEREAS, Mr. Cornman is  the  proud  grandfather  of  six
19    grandchildren and will soon be a great-grandfather; and

20        WHEREAS,   Mr.   Cornman   has   made  many  other  noble
21    contributions to his community and  has  been  dedicated  the
22    youth of Litchfield; and

23        WHEREAS,  Retirement  will offer Mr. Cornman more time to
24    pursue  his  favorite  hobbies  of  golf,  woodworking,   and
25    woodcarving; therefore, be it

26        RESOLVED,  BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-
27    SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE  OF  ILLINOIS,  that  we
28    congratulate  William  Cornman on his retirement and wish him
29    well in the future; and be it further

30        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be

 1    presented to Mr. William Cornman with our best wishes.
