92_HR0230 LRB9208727RHrh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, Dr. Vincent Bufalino will be awarded the first 3 annual Coeur d'Or Award (Heart of Gold) by the American Heart 4 Association, Chicago Division, at the 19th annual Heart Ball 5 on May 4, 2001; and 6 WHEREAS, The Coeur d'Or, also known as the Heart of Gold 7 Award, is given annually to acknowledge an individual who 8 through his or her professional accomplishments and personal 9 commitment, has advanced the mission of the American Heart 10 Association to reduce disability and death from heart and 11 stroke; and 12 WHEREAS, Dr. Bufalino currently serves as the President 13 and Chief Executive Officer of Midwest Heart Specialists and 14 as President and Medical Director of Edward Cardiovascular 15 Institute; in addition, he serves as a consulting 16 cardiologist at Edward Hospital, Valley West Community 17 Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital, Elmhurst Hospital, and 18 Central DuPage Hospital; and 19 WHEREAS, Dr. Bufalino was born and raised in the Chicago 20 metropolitan area; he received his undergraduate degree in 21 Biology magna cum laude in 1974 from Loyola University, and 22 his Doctorate in Medicine from the Loyola Stritch School of 23 Medicine; he continued his training as an intern and resident 24 in the internal medicine program at the Loyola University 25 Foster G. McGaw Hospital, where he was named chief resident 26 in his final year of his residency program and recognized by 27 the Illinois Society of Internal Medicine as an outstanding 28 resident; and 29 WHEREAS, Dr, Bufalino has been a volunteer with the 30 American Heart Association since 1983, serving in numerous 31 county, regional, and national positions; he has served as 32 vice president on the national board representing both the -2- LRB9208727RHrh 1 Midwest and abroad; he continues to serve on multiple 2 national committees related to national public policy and 3 advocacy; he was recently appoint to the position of chairman 4 of the Emergency Cardiac Care Committee for the American 5 Heart Association with additional responsibilities of 6 directing the CPR and Advanced Cardiac Life Support Programs 7 for the United States; and 8 WHEREAS, Dr. Bufalino has chaired the Midwest Heart 9 Research Foundation since its inception in 1988; he has also 10 held leadership positions with the DuPage County Heart 11 Association, the American Heart Association of Metropolitan 12 Chicago, and the American Heart Association North Central 13 Region; he has served on the Board of Directors of the 14 American Heart Association, and has served as a delegate to 15 the American Heart Association National Delegate Assembly; he 16 currently serves as Chairman of the Emergency Cardiac Care 17 Business Committee, American Heart Association - National, 18 and serves as a member of the Council in Cardiopulmonary and 19 Critical Care - ECC Research Funding Committee; and 20 WHEREAS, Dr. Bufalino has been the recipient of the 21 American Heart Association Physician of the Year for the 22 United States in 1997, and the 1998 recipient of the IANU 23 Michelangelo Award, Man of the Year; and 24 WHEREAS, Dr. Bufalino remains an active leader in his 25 community, where he serves as president of the local school 26 board, elementary school basketball coach, and active sponsor 27 of the local parochial high school; and 28 WHEREAS, Dr. Bufalino resides in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, 29 with his wife, Joan, and their sons, Dominick and Joseph; 30 therefore, be it 31 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 32 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that -3- LRB9208727RHrh 1 we congratulate Dr. Vincent J. Bufalino on being the 2 recipient of the first annual Coeur d'Or (Heart of Gold) 3 Award presented by the American Heart Association, Chicago 4 Division; and be it further 5 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 6 presented to Dr. Vincent J. Bufalino as an expression of our 7 esteem.
