92_HR0245 LRB9208769RHrh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in 4 the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and 5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Tony Koonce 6 has been selected as this year's recipient of the Gerald 7 Turley Memorial Award; and 8 WHEREAS, Tony Koonce is one of the charter members and 9 the first president of the Greenville AMVETS Post 140, and 10 the prime mover behind the establishment of the Bond County 11 Veteran's Memorial that was dedicated in November, 1997; and 12 WHEREAS, Tony Koonce also headed the Greenville AMVETS 13 Post 140's first major project by securing donations for the 14 purchase of flags that are flown from utility poles during 15 patriotic holidays along the main routes of the city; and 16 WHEREAS, Tony Koonce has been previously recognized for 17 his service to the AMVETS and his community; he was presented 18 the "VFW Post 1877's Veteran Appreciation Award" in 1997 in 19 recognition of his outstanding service to his community; in 20 1999 he was presented with the AMVETS Post 140 Distinguished 21 Service Award in recognition of his leadership as the post 22 commander from 1991 through 1999; and 23 WHEREAS, Tony Koonce served in the United States Army 24 during the Vietnam Conflict; therefore, be it 25 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 26 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 27 we congratulate Tony Koonce on being the recipient of the 28 2001 Gerald Turley Memorial Award in recognition of his 29 outstanding service to the community of Greenville, Illinois, 30 and the AMVETS Post 140; and be it further -2- LRB9208769RHrh 1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 2 presented to Tony Koonce as an expression of our esteem.
