92_HR0270 LRB9208787RHrh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in 4 the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and 5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Gordon D. 6 Postlewaite is retiring from his duties as Assistant 7 Superintendent for Administration at Oswego Community Unit 8 School District 308 at the end of the 2001 school year; and 9 WHEREAS, Mr. Postlewaite received his bachelor's degree 10 in Science from Carthage College in 1959 and his master's 11 degree in Educational Administration from Northern Illinois 12 University in 1968; and 13 WHEREAS, Mr. Postlewaite began his career as an educator 14 at the Aurora East Public Schools; from 1959 through 1960, he 15 served as a sixth grade teacher at W.S. Beaupre Elementary 16 School; from 1961 through 1962, he served as a Math and 17 Science teacher as well as the head football coach and 18 assistant basketball coach at C.F. Simmons Junior High 19 School; from 1962 through 1968 he served at East Aurora High 20 School where he was a Biology and Physical Education teacher 21 as well as the head varsity swim coach and as assistant 22 varsity football coach; from 1969 through 1970 he served as 23 assistant principal at K.D. Waldo Junior High School; in 1970 24 he served a Interim Administrative Assistant to the 25 Superintendent for the Aurora East Public Schools; from 1970 26 through 1971 he served as the Assistant Principal at East 27 Aurora High School; and from 1971 through 1979 he was 28 appointed Principal of C.F. Simmons Junior High School; and 29 WHEREAS, From 1979 through November of 1985, Mr. 30 Postlewaite was the Vice-President, Manager at Fox Valley 31 Platers, Inc., from November 1985 through 1989, he served as 32 Principal at East Aurora High School; from 1989 through 1993, -2- LRB9208787RHrh 1 he served as Principal at Eisenhower High School; and from 2 1993 through 2001 he served as Assistant Superintendent for 3 Administration at Oswego Community Unit School District 308; 4 and 5 WHEREAS, Gordon Postlewaite serves as a member of several 6 professional organizations including the Upstate Eight 7 Conference Board of Control, the Illinois Principals 8 Association, the National Association of Secondary School 9 Principals, the Illinois Association of Secondary School 10 Principals, Phi Delta Kappa - Northern Illinois University 11 Chapter, the Illinois Parent-Teacher Association, and the 12 Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development; he 13 also served as Co-Chairman of the Education Division of 14 United Way Campaign from 1969 through 1971, as Chairman of 15 the National Education Consortium from 1975 through 1976, and 16 as President of the Fox valley Junior High School Principals' 17 Association from 1975 through 1976; and 18 WHEREAS, Gordon Postlewaite has been active in several 19 workshops and speaking engagements including as a trainer for 20 the Evaluation of Ancillary School Personnel, Administrator 21 Academy Phase I, Project Challenge, and T.I.S.A - 22 Administrative Training; and as a speaker at the National 23 AAHPER Convention in Washington, D.C., the Regional AAHPER 24 Workshop at Purdue University, the State Meeting for Physical 25 Educators in 1973, the OSPI Workshops, the State Convention 26 AAHPER in Chicago, the Youngstown Ohio Workshop, the Kent 27 State University Workshop, and the Whiteside County 28 Institute; and 29 WHEREAS, Gordon Postlewaite has authored or co-authored 30 several publications, including "Comprehensive Individualized 31 Computer-Monitored Physical Education Program" in 1972, 32 "Computer-Monitored Physical Education" for the Journal of 33 Health and P.E. Recreation in 1973, "Present -3- LRB9208787RHrh 1 Computer-Monitored Physical Education" for the Junior High 2 School Association of Illinois Newsletter in 1974, and 3 "Effective Schools and Administrative Teaming" for the 4 Illinois Principal in 1987; and 5 WHEREAS, In addition to his teaching duties, Gordon 6 Postlewaite served as President-Elect of the Aurora Area 7 Shrine Club in 1986, as Vice-President of the Carthage 8 College Alumni Association from 1982 through 1985, as 9 Secretary/Treasurer of the Oswegoland Optimist Club in 1983; 10 and as President of the Carthage College Alumni Association 11 from 1987 through the present day; and 12 WHEREAS, Oswego School District #308 will host a 13 Retirement Party in honor of Gordon D. Postlewaite on June 8, 14 2001; therefore, be it 15 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 16 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 17 we congratulate Gordon D. Postlewaite on his retirement as 18 Assistant Superintendent for Administration for Oswego School 19 District #308 and we wish him well in all of his future 20 endeavors; and be it further 21 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 22 presented to Gordon D. Postlewaite as an expression of our 23 esteem.
