92_HR0317 LRB9208914RHrh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in 4 the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and 5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Stanley R. 6 Huffman, M.D. is retiring from his medical practice in 7 Charleston, Illinois on June 30, 2001; and 8 WHEREAS, Stanley R. Huffman, M.D. was born in Lexington, 9 Kentucky; he graduated with high distinction from the 10 University of Kentucky in 1959, where he also served as a 11 member of Phi Beta Kappa Scholastic Fraternity; he earned his 12 medical degree from George Washington University in 1963, 13 where he also served as a member of Alpha Omega Alpha 14 Scholastic Fraternity; in addition, he served an internship, 15 his residency in Internal Medicine, and his fellowship in 16 Gastroenterology at the University of Kentucky Medical 17 Center; and 18 WHEREAS, Dr. Huffman began a private practice at the 19 Houston-McDevitt Clinic in Murray, Kentucky in 1969; he then 20 served as Director of the Coronary Unit at Murray-Calloway 21 County Hospital in Murray, Kentucky, as physician at the 22 Student Health Service and as Associate Professor of Clinical 23 Medicine at the University of Kentucky Medical Center from 24 1971 through 1979; as Chief of Medical Services at the Sarah 25 Bush Lincoln Health Center in 1980 and as its President in 26 1983, and serving as physician at his private practice in 27 Charleston, Illinois where he has worked since 1979; and 28 WHEREAS, Dr. Huffman is affiliated with many professional 29 organizations, including the American Society for 30 Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the American Heart Association, 31 the American Gastroenterological Association, the 32 Coles-Cumberland County Medical Society, the Illinois State -2- LRB9208914RHrh 1 Medical Society, and the American Medical Association; he has 2 served in various leadership positions at Sarah Bush Lincoln 3 Health Center including as its past President, 4 Vice-President, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and 5 presently as its attending M.D. and Treasurer; he has also 6 served as an Adjunct Instructor in the College of Physical 7 Education and Recreation at Eastern Illinois University, as 8 Clinical Associate at the University of Illinois College of 9 Medicine in Urbana, and as a board member of the Eastern 10 Illinois University Foundation; and 11 WHEREAS, During his career, Dr. Huffman authored and 12 co-authored articles for "Digestive Diseases" and the 13 "Journal of Laboratory and Clinical Medicine"; and 14 WHEREAS, Dr. Huffman is supported by his loving and very 15 proud family, who include his wife, Maggie, his children, 16 Gary, Daniel, Dana, and David, and his grandchildren; and 17 WHEREAS, Dr. Huffman will spend his retirement with his 18 grandchildren and keep up his active participation in tennis, 19 racket ball, golf and working in the garden; and 20 WHEREAS, Over the years, Dr. Huffman has shown that an 21 individual can successfully adapt to all the progressive 22 medical demands while maintaining the personal qualities 23 necessary of a true "family" physician; he is deeply loved 24 and respected by all who know him, and will be dearly missed; 25 therefore, be it 26 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 27 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 28 we congratulate Stanley R. Huffman, M.D. on his retirement 29 from his Charleston, Illinois medical practice and we wish 30 him well in all of his future endeavors; and be it further 31 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be -3- LRB9208914RHrh 1 presented to Stanley R. Huffman, M.D. as an expression of our 2 esteem.
