1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in
4 the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Philip Jose
6 Farmer received the the Science Fiction Writers of American's
7 Highest Award, "The Grand Master for 2001" on April 28, 2001;
8 and
9 WHEREAS, Beginning with his first publication, "The
10 Lovers" in 1952, Philip Jose Farmer has explored human
11 relationships and dimensions in science fiction; and
12 WHEREAS, Philip Jose Farmer's works have inspired
13 generations of writers; his seventy plus books have been
14 published in twenty-two languages and in forty-one countries;
15 and
16 WHEREAS, Philip Jose Farmer's Riverworld book series is
17 currently in development as a television series for the
18 SCI-FI Channel; Mr. Farmer is acting as both director and
19 executive producer; and
20 WHEREAS, In honor Philip Jose Farmer's prestigious award,
21 the Friends of Peoria Public Library will host a Writers Live
22 "Living Legend Reception" on May 19, 2001; therefore, be it
23 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
24 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
25 we congratulate Philip Jose Farmer on receiving the Science
26 Fiction Writers of American's Highest Award, "The Grand
27 Master for 2001"; and be it further
28 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
29 presented to Philip Jose Farmer as an expression of our
30 esteem.
