92_HR0388 LRB9209033RHrhB 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are concerned over labor disputes occurring 4 within the State of Illinois; and 5 WHEREAS, There is a contract dispute between the 1,050 6 members of Gas Workers Local 18007, SEIU, and Peoples Energy 7 of Chicago; and 8 WHEREAS, This dispute puts the safety of Chicago gas 9 customers and their communities at risk; Peoples Energy of 10 Chicago is using inexperienced replacement workers to do 11 safety-sensitive work; and 12 WHEREAS, Peoples Energy of Chicago made $99 million in 13 profit in the first six months of their fiscal year, in the 14 period ending March 31; the company's earnings were up 15% 15 between the first half of 2001 and the first half of 2000; 16 and the company is forecasting that this fiscal year, ending 17 on September 30, it will have an increase of 25% per share in 18 earnings; and 19 WHEREAS, Peoples Energy of Chicago has recorded these 20 profits because of the work of over 1,000 individuals from 21 every neighborhood in Chicago; therefore be it 22 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 23 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 24 the Illinois General Assembly urges Peoples Energy of Chicago 25 to return to the bargaining table and negotiate a contract 26 that is equitable to both the workers and the company; and be 27 it further 28 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 29 presented to the representatives of Gas Workers Local 18007, 30 SEIU, and the President of Peoples Energy of Chicago.
