92_HR0434 LRB9209112RHrhA 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, There are thousands of undocumented Mexican 3 children residing in the State of Illinois that are unable to 4 attend State colleges or universities after the completion of 5 high school; and 6 WHEREAS, The City of Chicago currently has the second 7 largest Mexican population in the United States; therefore, 8 be it 9 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 10 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 11 we urge the State of Illinois and the government of Mexico, 12 through its representatives in Illinois and the Consulate 13 General of Mexico, to work together to create a reciprocal 14 program that would allow Illinois residents to attend Mexican 15 colleges at resident tuition rates and Mexican residents, 16 irrespective of their migratory status, to attend Illinois' 17 public colleges and universities at resident tuition rates; 18 and be it further 19 RESOLVED, That the State of Illinois is further urged to 20 follow the lead of the State of California by creating a 21 reciprocal scholarship program whereby a certain number of 22 Illinois citizens would receive tuition waivers to attend 23 institutions of higher education in Mexico and a certain 24 number of Mexican citizens would receive tuition waivers to 25 attend institutions of higher education in Illinois; and be 26 it further 27 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 28 delivered to the Consulate General of Mexico, Carlos M. Sada, 29 to the Chairman of the Board of Higher Education, and to the 30 Chairman of the Illinois Community College Board.
