 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS,  The  members   of   the   Illinois   House   of
 3    Representatives  are pleased to recognize milestone events in
 4    the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and

 5        WHEREAS, Joyce Turner Hilkevitch, the founding  president
 6    of  Mostly  Music,  began  her labor of love in 1973 when she
 7    gathered capacity crowds to  a  Hyde  park  mansion  to  hear
 8    first-rate chamber music; and

 9        WHEREAS,  Today, nearly three decades later, Mostly Music
10    continues to offer more than 25 concerts a season, showcasing
11    gifted local performers for music lovers; and

12        WHEREAS, Mostly Music also reaches out to seniors through
13    its Magic Carpet series, presenting  more  than  80  concerts
14    this  year  alone,  and  to young people through its Teen Art
15    Apprenticeship in African-American Studies; and

16        WHEREAS,   Mostly   Music   organizes    symposia    with
17    universities  and  other  arts  organizations  to promote the
18    understanding  and  appreciation  of  music  and  contributes
19    significantly to the vitality of the music scene in  Chicago;
20    and

21        WHEREAS,  Joyce  Turner  Hilkevitch  has served as Mostly
22    Music's  Executive  Director,  and  certainly  its   creative
23    inspiration, for almost three full decades; and

24        WHEREAS,  Joyce's decision to retire was accompanied by a
25    careful search  for  continuity  for  Mostly  Music  so  that
26    Northeastern Illinois University, a longstanding partner with
27    Mostly  Music, is now continuing the tradition through Mostly
28    Music at NEIU; therefore, be it

29        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
30    NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that

 1    we  salute  Joyce  Turner  Hilkevitch  on the occasion of her
 2    retirement and on the  success  of  her  30-year  venture  in
 3    bringing such wonderful music to our ears; and be it further

 4        RESOLVED,  That in our best a capella voices, we sing out
 5    our deepest gratitude to Joyce and our best  wished  for  the
 6    continuing  success  of Mostly Music at Northeastern Illinois
 7    University; and be it further

 8        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
 9    presented  to Joyce Turner Hilkevitch as an expression of our
10    esteem.
