92_HR0476 LRB9210124RHrh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, On September 11, 2001, the United States of 3 America was subjected to a heinous attack by terrorists who 4 hijacked four flights departing the east coast of the United 5 States headed for destinations in California; and 6 WHEREAS, The hijackers crashed two of the airliners into 7 the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, 8 one airliner into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and the 9 fourth airliner crashed outside of Pittsburgh; and 10 WHEREAS, The vicious attacks resulted in the collapse of 11 the two 110-story World Trade Center towers causing mass 12 destruction to the entire New York financial district; and 13 WHEREAS, At least 266 passengers, flight attendants, and 14 pilots of the four hijacked planes perished in the attack and 15 over 5,000 more individuals, including workers, bystanders, 16 and rescuers lost their lives trapped in tons of rubble; and 17 WHEREAS, Thousands of Americans have united in response 18 to this tragedy by volunteering in the search and rescue 19 effort, by donating blood, clothing, and other supplies to 20 aid the victims, and by offering prayers and thoughts of hope 21 and support; and 22 WHEREAS, Terrorism is a heinous and cowardly act against 23 all humanity and must be eliminated as a threat to our 24 democratic state and to all reaches of the world; therefore, 25 be it 26 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 27 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 28 we condemn acts of terrorism in any capacity in any region of 29 the world; and be it further 30 RESOLVED, That we provide our full support to President -2- LRB9210124RHrh 1 Bush and Congress in whatever manner they pursue to identify 2 and retaliate against those responsible for this tragic act 3 of cowardliness; and be it further 4 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 5 delivered to the President of the United States, the 6 President pro tempore of the United States Senate, the 7 Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, and to 8 each member of the Illinois congressional delegation.
