 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, On September 11, 2001, terrorists hijacked  four
 3    civilian  aircraft,  two  of which crashed into and destroyed
 4    the twin towers of the World Trade Center in  New  York  City
 5    and other nearby buildings; and

 6        WHEREAS,  As  a result of those heinous attacks, hundreds
 7    of New York rescue personnel perished; and

 8        WHEREAS, Millions of citizens from the State of  Illinois
 9    watched   in  astonished  horror  as  these  terrible  events
10    unfolded on live television; and

11        WHEREAS, While grieving the loss of their New  York  City
12    brethren,  Firefighters  from  the  State of Illinois quickly
13    traveled to New York City to assist in  rescue  and  recovery
14    efforts; and

15        WHEREAS,  When  they arrived at the scene of the terrible
16    devastation, these dedicated  men  and  women  went  to  work
17    wherever  needed,  ignoring  the danger to themselves as they
18    searched unstable structures for possible survivors, as  well
19    as clearing debris and performing other duties; and

20        WHEREAS,   Many  more  Firefighters  from  the  State  of
21    Illinois have volunteered to help and  are  now  prepared  to
22    travel to New York to lend a hand if needed; and

23        WHEREAS,  These  courageous fire personnel, risking their
24    lives and giving without hesitation of  their  own  time  and
25    resources in responding to this crisis, represent the best of
26    the  State  of  Illinois,  and  indeed,  the  United  States;
27    therefore, be it

28        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
29    NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
30    we honor the brave and selfless men and women of the  various

 1    Fire  Departments in the State of Illinois who have responded
 2    to these  tragic  events  with  courage,  determination,  and
 3    skill; and be it further

 4        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
 5    presented  to  the  State  Fire  Marshal  and  Illinois  Fire
 6    Departments that sent volunteers to New York City as a  token
 7    of our esteem, respect, and sincere appreciation.
