1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to recognize excellence in the
4 field of education; and
5 WHEREAS, The Association of Community Colleges' Trustees
6 will present John Hoagland, a science instructor at Danville
7 Area Community College, with the William H. Meardy Faculty
8 Member Award during ceremonies at the association's annual
9 convention in San Diego on October 13, 2001; he was nominated
10 for the award by his colleagues, who praised his commitment
11 to the almost 15,000 students that he has instructed in the
12 course of his tenure; and
13 WHEREAS, John Hoagland received his bachelor's degree in
14 1962 and his master's degree in 1964 from Purdue University
15 in West Lafayette, Indiana; both of his degrees are in
16 science education, with a specialization in chemistry and
17 biology; and
18 WHEREAS, John Hoagland has taught basic biology,
19 molecular biology and zoology at Danville Area Community
20 College for the past 34 years; and
21 WHEREAS, Mr. Hoagland serves in many statewide
22 organizations committed to the community college experience;
23 in addition, he is active in his community and he farms and
24 raises cattle near Covington, Indiana; and
25 WHEREAS, Mr. Hoagland is known for bringing examples of
26 the everyday world into his classroom; for more than 25
27 years, during spring break, he has taken groups of students
28 and colleagues to the American Southwest for a week of
29 exploration in three of the four major desert areas of the
30 United States; and
31 WHEREAS, In June 2001, Mr. Hoagland was awarded the

1 Association of Community Colleges' Trustees Faculty Member of
2 the Year Award for the Central Region, which includes more
3 than 200 two-year institutions in nine Midwestern states;
4 therefore, be it
5 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
7 we congratulate John Hoagland on being the recipient of the
8 William H. Meardy Faculty Member Award given by the
9 Association of Community Colleges' Trustees in recognition of
10 his dedicated teaching career; and be it further
11 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to John Hoagland as an expression of our esteem.
