92_HR0488 LRB9210164RHrh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in 4 the history of organizations in the State of Illinois; and 5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Advocate 6 Illinois Masonic Medical Center is celebrating the 100th 7 anniversary of its incorporation; and 8 WHEREAS, Chicago Union Hospital opened its doors in 1901 9 on the same site where Illinois Masonic Hospital stands 10 today; it consisted of a single two-and-a-half story wooden 11 house with 17 rooms and had a 30-bed capacity with the 12 average cost of a ward bed at $7 per week; a fire later 13 destroyed the main building of the hospital in 1905; and 14 WHEREAS, A new state-of-the-art hospital building opened 15 in 1909; the hospital was equipped with an x-Ray machine and 16 an increased number of beds; and 17 WHEREAS, By 1921, the Illinois Masonic Hospital 18 Association purchased Chicago Union Hospital for $100,000; 19 the new hospital was dedicated to providing care to the 20 approximately 60,000 Masons in the Chicago area and their 21 families, as well as the residents of the surrounding 22 communities; in 2000, Illinois Masonic joined Advocate Health 23 Care Systems and officially became Advocate Illinois Masonic 24 Medical Center; and 25 WHEREAS, Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center has 26 grown over the past century into a major teaching hospital 27 that provides tertiary services to the communities on the 28 North Side of Chicago; today it continues its commitment to 29 improve the health of the patients and community it serves; 30 therefore, be it 31 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE -2- LRB9210164RHrh 1 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 2 we congratulate Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center on 3 the celebration of its 100th anniversary of service to the 4 residents of Chicago; and be it further 5 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 6 presented to the President of the Advocate Illinois Masonic 7 Medical Center as an expression of our esteem.
