92_HR0506 LRB9210735AGmb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, On September 11, 2001, the United States of 3 America was attacked by terrorists who hijacked four civilian 4 aircraft, two of which crashed into and destroyed the twin 5 towers of the World Trade Center in New York City; and 6 WHEREAS, At least 266 passengers, flight attendants, and 7 pilots of the four planes perished in the attack, and 8 countless more individuals, including workers, bystanders, 9 and rescuers, lost their lives; and 10 WHEREAS, Thousands of firefighters and police officers 11 from all over the United States have responded to this 12 tragedy by volunteering in the search and rescue efforts in 13 New York, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania; they have 14 willingly put their lives on the line to search for their 15 fallen comrades who lost their lives trying to rescue 16 thousands of workers in the World Trade Center; and 17 WHEREAS, In the shadow of these tragic events, are 18 courageous firefighters and police officers around the State 19 that without hesitation, put their lives on the line everyday 20 to serve and protect the citizens of our State; and 21 WHEREAS, Firefighters and Police Officers perform a job 22 that sometimes goes unappreciated or at times taken for 23 granted; therefore be it 24 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 25 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 26 we honor the brave and selfless men and women of the various 27 Fire and Police Departments in the State of Illinois who, 28 with courage, determination, and skill, protect our State 29 every day; and be it further 30 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 31 presented to the appropriate parties as a token of our -2- LRB9210735AGmb 1 esteem, respect, and sincere appreciation.
