92_HR0537 LRB9211002RHrhA 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives wish to express their sincere condolences to 4 the family and friends of Officer Brian T. Strouse, who was 5 killed in the line of duty on July 1, 2001; and 6 WHEREAS, Born June 1, 1968 to Paul and Ann Marie Strouse, 7 Brian Strouse grew up in the Montclare neighborhood on 8 Chicago's Northwest side; he was a graduate of Lane Tech High 9 School and attended Wright Junior College; and 10 WHEREAS, After graduation, Officer Strouse enlisted in 11 the United States Marine Corps and served for four years, 12 including a tour of duty in the Persian Gulf; and 13 WHEREAS, After military service, Officer Strouse joined 14 the Chicago Police Department where he served the 12th 15 District as a member of the Monroe District tactical unit, a 16 unit of elite officers who perform some of the most dangerous 17 assignments on the 13,500 member force; he often worked out 18 of uniform in high crime neighborhoods to monitor drug and 19 gang activity; and 20 WHEREAS, Officer Strouse was a natural-born leader who 21 became his tactical team's "ringleader" largely because of 22 his affable personality and tendency to crack a joke or quip 23 what became known as "Strousisms"; he was known as "the 24 Preacher" because of his tendency to offer kind lectures to 25 youth in the district about staying in school and getting 26 jobs; and 27 WHEREAS, During his career, Officer Strouse received 61 28 departmental commendations including an honor for rescuing, 29 along with two other officers, Yolanda Ellis from a burning 30 apartment building on the morning of November 2, 1999; and 31 WHEREAS, Officer Brian Strouse enjoyed playing softball -2- LRB9211002RHrhA 1 and golf and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan; and 2 WHEREAS, The passing of Officer Brian Strouse will be 3 deeply felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his 4 parents, Paul and Ann Marie Strouse; his sisters, Kathleen 5 Noncz, Paula Strouse, and Cynthia Strouse; his childhood 6 friends, Chris Roy, Joey Samansky, and Rocco Spizzirri; and a 7 host of additional relatives, friends, and colleagues at the 8 12th District of the Chicago Police Department where his 9 presence will be dearly missed; therefore, be it 10 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 11 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 12 we mourn, along with all who knew him, the death of Officer 13 Brian Strouse of Chicago, Illinois; and be it further 14 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 15 presented to the family of Officer Brian Strouse with our 16 sincere condolences.
