92_HR0595 LRB9211740RHrh 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in 4 the history of organizations in the State of Illinois; and 5 WHEREAS, The Kiwanis Club of Benton, Illinois, was 6 chartered on January 11, 1951 with thirty members and was led 7 by A.O. Wilson; and 8 WHEREAS, On March 19, 1951, the West Frankfort Kiwanis 9 Club sponsored the charter night of the Benton Club; the 10 meeting was held at the First Christian Church at 302 South 11 Main Street in Benton; and 12 WHEREAS, The Benton Kiwanis Club was formed to give 13 individuals an opportunity to meet their peers and expand 14 their circle of acquaintances, take part in the community in 15 which they live, and share their experience, knowledge and 16 time in service to the community and their fellow citizens; 17 and 18 WHEREAS, Some of the projects the Benton Kiwanis Club 19 supports include Middle School Project Graduation, High 20 School Project Graduation, Spastic Paralysis, Rend Lake 21 Clean-Up, Habitat for Humanity, Dave Webster Kiwanis Fun Day 22 for the handicapped, Franklin Hospital Pastoral Care, and the 23 distribution of Christmas food baskets; in addition, the 24 Benton Kiwanis Club also supports the Even Start Reading 25 Program, the Teacher Appreciation Dinner, the Benton 26 Ministerial Alliance, the Benton Middle School Student of the 27 Month award, the Benton Civic Center Dining Hall restoration, 28 the Benton/West City Area Chamber of Commerce, and numerous 29 other community events; and 30 WHEREAS, The Benton Kiwanis Club is one of the most 31 active clubs in the Benton community; currently the club has -2- LRB9211740RHrh 1 35 active members under the leadership of Linda J. Roberts; 2 therefore, be it 3 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 4 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 5 we congratulate the Benton Kiwanis Club on 50 years of 6 dedicated service and commitment to the residents of Benton, 7 Illinois; and be it further 8 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 9 presented to Linda J. Roberts, president of the Benton 10 Kiwanis Club, as an expression of our esteem.
