1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to recognize notable achievements in the
4 lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, St. Anne Record editor and publisher Bill
6 Goreham exemplifies the quintessential country newspaper
7 editor of the golden age; and
8 WHEREAS, In an era when weekly newspapers were a
9 community's sole source of local news, other than small town
10 gossip, it was the St. Anne Record that would be the first to
11 herald the birth of a new family member or the death of an
12 elderly one; and
13 WHEREAS, Bill Goreham and his brother, Donald, bought the
14 newspaper back in 1951; Mr. Goreham has been at the helm of
15 the Record since Harry Truman occupied the White House and
16 Elvis was playing honky tonks on the outskirts of Memphis;
17 Mr. Goreham has single-handedly edited the newspaper since
18 his brother left the business in 1968; Mr. Goreham's wife,
19 Gladys, also helps out three days a week in the editorial
20 offices on Illinois Route 1; and
21 WHEREAS, Mr. Goreham has witnessed many advancements in
22 the newspaper publication industry and the transformation of
23 local journalism; today his business is about 90 percent job
24 printing and 10 percent newspaper publication; and
25 WHEREAS, In all of his five decades of service to the
26 Record, Mr. Goreham missed only one week of work while
27 recovering from cancer surgery; therefore, be it
28 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
29 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
30 we congratulate Bill Goreham on his dedication and service to
31 the St. Anne Record for the past 50 years and we wish him

1 continued success in his venture; and be it further
2 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3 presented to Bill Goreham as an expression of our esteem.
