1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in
4 the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Sheriff Roy
6 Dean Bradford of Jefferson County will be sworn in as the
7 President of the Illinois Sheriffs' Association at an
8 inaugural banquet on January 27, 2002, a day that the mayor
9 of Mt. Vernon has officially declared as "Roy Dean Bradford
10 Day"; and
11 WHEREAS, Roy Dean Bradford began his distinguished law
12 enforcement career in 1974 when he joined the Jefferson
13 County Sheriff's Office; he was quickly promoted to captain
14 in 1976 and then to chief deputy one year later; and
15 WHEREAS, Sheriff Bradford became the Certified Arson
16 Investigator for the University of Illinois in 1984, where he
17 served for 9 years; in 1993, he was appointed the sheriff of
18 Jefferson County after the death of Sheriff Bob Pitchford; he
19 was then elected as Jefferson County Sheriff by a 74%
20 majority vote in 1994 and reelected in 1998 by an even larger
21 84% vote; and
22 WHEREAS, While serving Jefferson County as sheriff,
23 Sheriff Bradford has received numerous awards throughout his
24 career including the "Governor's Award of Excellence in Law
25 Enforcement Training"; and
26 WHEREAS, In addition to his duties as sheriff, Sheriff
27 Bradford has also been active in the Illinois Sheriffs'
28 Association; he was elected to the Executive Board in 1998,
29 and served as the second Vice-President in 2000 and the first
30 Vice-President in 2001; and

1 WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Sheriff Bradford has been
2 supported by his wife of 38 years, Glenda; they have raised 3
3 daughters Marcia, Carol, and Julie; and are blessed with 4
4 grandchildren Alyssa, Rachel, Emily, and Hannah; therefore be
5 it
6 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
8 we thank Sheriff Roy Dean Bradford for his years of service
9 to Jefferson County and we congratulate him on his
10 inauguration as President of the Illinois Sheriffs'
11 Association; and be it further
12 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13 presented to Sheriff Roy Dean Bradford as an expression of
14 our esteem.
